Usually it is difficult to
monitor the daily harmonic changes of a pregnant women and especially in rural
areas. Monitoring procedures are the basis to evaluate the clinical state of
patients and to assess changes in their conditions, thus providing necessary
interventions in time. Both these two objectives can be achieved by integrating
technological development with methodological tools, thus allowing accurate
classification and extraction of useful diagnostic information. Therefore, In
this paper we are proposing an belt which will take analog inputs and make
consequent predictions about fetal health accordingly. The paper is focused on
monitoring procedures applied to fetal heart rate variability (FHRV) signals,
collected during pregnancy, in order to assess fetal well-being.
As we all know that women during
pregnancy needs lots of precautions and care, they need to maintain their
health and need to be caution during this time for the proper development of
the fetus. Hence it is our duty to resolve the health issue of pregnant women.
Studies have shown that pregnant women are much safer if protected by safety
belts in any accident. The AMAC on medical aspects of automotive safety has
stated that “both pregnant women and fetus are safer, provided the belt is worn
as low on pelvis as possible.”
Globally, about 800 women die
every day of preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth; 20 per
cent of these women are from India. Annually, it is estimated that 44,000 women
die due to accidents, mother body posture and not proper body temperature check
up in India. So we decided to develop a belt which will be helpful to women
during pregnancy. This belt will help
women to check their body posture, it will indicate women when they will be not
in proper posture. This will help both pregnant women and fetus. In this belt
women will also be able to check their body temperature easily and body
temperature will be shown on the display. Also if women met with any accident
then she can easily contact her family and notification will be sent to them .
This belt also have unique
feature that would help women to keep check of the health of the fetus. By
using unique technique pregnant women can keep check of number of kick, which
can easily tells the health of the fetus. With this technique still birth of
the child can also be determined. That will be very useful to women during her
These all features will help
women to keep regular check of her and also of the future champ. All the data
that will be displayed or that can be determined
by the belt can also be seen and checked on a mobile application which can be
easily downloaded through playstore.
A flex sensor or bend
sensor is a sensor that measures the amount of deflection or bending. The sensor
gives variable resistance when it is bended along in particular direction. Usually, the sensor is stuck to the surface,
and resistance of sensor element is varied by bending the surface. Since the
resistance is directly proportional to the amount of bend it is used as goniometer, and often called flexible potentiometer. Here, it is applied along
the spine to check if the mother is bending or not.
LM35 temperature sensor-
The advantage of
this sensor has more memory, processing and communication capabilities than
other sensors. The LM35 series are precision integrated – circuit temperature
sensors, whose output voltage is linearly proportional to the Celsius
(Centigrade) temperature. The LM35 thus has an advantage over linear
temperature sensors calibrated in 0 Kelvin, as the user is not required to
subtract a large constant voltage from its output to obtain convenient
Centigrade scaling. The LM35 does not require any external calibration or
trimming to provide typical accuracies of +-
¼ C at room temperature and +- ¾
C over a full -55 to +150C temperature range. The LM35’s low output impedance,
linear output, and precise inherent calibration make interfacing to readout or
control circuitry especially easy. It can be used with single power supplies,
or with plus and minus supplies. As it draws only 60µA from its supply, it has
very low self- heating, less than 0.1 C in still air. The LM35 is rated to
operate over a -55 to +150 temperature range.
SIM 900A GSM GPRS Module-
This is an

Arduino Uno is the most common version of Arduino family. The Arduino Uno is a
micro controller board based on the ATmega328.It has 14 digital input/output
pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic
resonator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset

Bluetooth Module HC-05
module is an easy to use Bluetooth SPP (Serial Port Protocol) module,designed
for transparent wireless serial connection setup.The HC-05 Bluetooth Module can
be used in a Master or Slave configuration, making it a great solution for
serial port bluetooth module is fully qualified Bluetooth V2.0+EDR (Enhanced
Data Rate) 3Mbps Modulation with complete 2.4GHz radio transceiver and
baseband. It uses CSR Bluecore 04?External single chip Rluetooth system with
CMOS technology and with AFH (Adaptive Frequency Hopping Feature).
Inputs from the sensors is given to
the Arduino UNO which after
processing further sends the data to the android application with the help of Bluetooth
for constant monitoring and give an alert if any abnormality is
encountered. Application also sends an SOS with patients location to the nearby hospital and family members
with the help of SIM 900A GSM GPRS
Module connected in the circuit.
Specific working of different sensors

This sensor will give an analog value which will be converted into
digital value by ADC present in Arduino UNO which will be used in calculating
temperature as per following equation:-
Temperature = digital value * 0.48828125
This temperature values then will be sent to application in which
temperature fluctuations will be monitored and also be proven helpful to detect
mild fever during pregnancy which has to be taken care off as it can have catastrophic
effect on fetal health.
The pressure sensing belt made from velostat material is the
highlight of the project as major predictions about fetus well-being are made
on the basis of readings of this belt.

right posture or not and if not alerts them as not being in the right posture
is the major reason for which pregnant women feel fatique. And it is not
suggested for pregnant women to bend so it is placed along with spine keeping
that in mind.
In this paper we have stated a model
for a Fetal Harmonic Monitoring (FHM) belt. Which will use velostat material to
monitor the changes fetus is going through during guestation period. And uses
temperature sensor and flex sensor to monitor mothers body. The belt also
contains a GSM Module which is used to monitor mother’s surroundings and to
send an distress signal in case of emergency. And all this is monitored and
controlled by the android application which can be easily downloaded from
